Holiday gifts for the sewing enthusiast...

Let's say you know and/or love someone who loves to sew or craft.  There are some gifts guaranteed not to disappoint.  Time is short, life is busy.

Maybe you want to gift yourself with something sewing-related.   Maybe you want to gift yourself, and then hand the bill to someone else (ahem...) for reimbursement for your Christmas gift... Offensive? Maybe.  Efficient?  Definitely.  (You'll thank me later for that idea...)

Did you know there are some fabric stores, sewing studios, and websites who offer gift certificates and other gift possibilities?

Well, here are some ideas for you.

Gift Certificates:

Mood Fabrics (online or in-store)
Emma One Sock (online only, for online use)
Gorgeous Things (online only, for online use)

Classes (in person):

City Quilter ( I blame them for giving me the fever for their umbrella workshop, now that I've seen it!)
Cindy Chock for private, semi-private (3 or fewer adults), or children's classes - Call for details
Mood (NYC or LA)
Manhattan JCC
The Sewing Studio (in a group, or private lessons available)

Books and Subscriptions:

Around the World Fashion Publications

Or, you can always treat yourself or anyone else to a "Speakeasy" shopping trip!  The next one is scheduled for this Friday!

If you know of any other NYC garment-related stores  offering gift certificates, don't hesitate to chime in!

  1. Shhhh, don't tell, but my crafty friend is getting some new sewing tools from SIL Thread and M&J Trim in her stocking. Santa shopped in September (and got me the same things). Clever Santa!

That umbrella class -- cool -- haven't seen anything like that around here. That frame is reasonably priced ($24). I'd be tempted to get eyelet from NY Elegant & make a sun parasol. They had some beautiful eyelet when I was last in there. Hmmm, what a great gift that would be for someone for next year.

I bought some of City Quilter's "NYC Subway Map" laminate to make a travel pouch for myself, but haven't gotten to it yet. It's sitting on my sewing desk asking me why I don't sew more for myself! After the holidays, maybe.

    1. Let's erase the "maybe" from that statement, shall we?

  2. Aye, aye Captain! :)

I have bronchitis right now, so I'll be lucky to get anything else finished before Christmas. Some people are getting handmade IOU's! :(

I talked to City Quilter. They have the umbrella frames in stock & are ready with the right size boxes to ship. So if you take that class, let us know how it goes! I'm intrigued. They said there was a picture of someone's batik parasol from a previous class on their FB page.

  3. Their FB page is amazing & star-studded! Ohhhh how I wish I lived in the city and could just pop into CQ all the time. My son is talking about getting a new job & moving back to Manhattan next year. If so, then he'd better find an apartment near The GD for Dear Ol' Mom! :)
